Above market

Working at Donutas isn't for everyone. The hours start early (really early — our bakers arrive at 3:45 AM), the pace is fast, and you'll go home smelling like fried dough and vanilla whether you want to or not. But if you care about craftsmanship, love being part of a tight-knit team, and get genuine satisfaction from making people happy with food — this might be the best job you've ever had.

We've grown from 3 employees in 2019 to 34 today, and our average tenure is 2.8 years — exceptional in the food service industry, where the average is under a year. We retain people because we treat them well: above-market pay, real benefits, free donuts (obviously), and a culture that values skill, reliability, and kindness above all else.

Below you'll find our currently open positions, what we offer, and what it's like to work here. If something catches your eye, reach out through our contact form or stop by any location and ask a manager. We'd love to hear from you.

What It's Like Here

Donutas is a small company, and it feels like one. Everyone knows everyone. Chef Maria still knows every employee by name, asks about their families, and brings in homemade pasta on team birthdays (her other culinary passion). Our head baker Carlos has trained every baker who's ever worked here, and he takes genuine pride in watching people develop their skills.

We work hard — the early mornings are real, the pace during rush is intense, and the standards are high. But we also take care of each other. When a team member's car broke down last winter, three coworkers organized a carpool schedule so she wouldn't miss shifts. When our dishwasher's father was hospitalized, the team covered his shifts for two weeks without being asked. That's the kind of place this is.

We hire for three things: skill (or willingness to learn), reliability, and kindness. Everything else we can teach. If you show up on time, work with care, and treat your teammates and customers with respect, you'll do well here.

Careers FAQ

How do I apply?
Use our contact form — select "Careers" and mention the role you're interested in. Include your name, availability, and a sentence or two about yourself. You can also walk into any location and ask a manager. We don't require a formal resume, though you're welcome to attach one.
Do I need experience?
It depends on the role. Baking positions prefer (but don't require) prior commercial experience — we have a thorough training program. Front-of-house and barista roles don't require prior experience; we'll train you completely. Supervisor roles need at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
What are the hours like?
Bakers work early morning shifts (3:45 AM – 12:00 PM). Front-of-house and baristas work either morning or afternoon shifts. All locations have a 2-week advance schedule. We try to give everyone two consecutive days off per week. Late-night window shifts at University District run 7:30 PM – 12:30 AM.
Is there room to grow?
Yes. We promote from within whenever possible. Two of our three shift supervisors started as front-of-house. Our Riverside manager started as a baker. And we're growing — new locations are in the planning stage, which means new management opportunities.
Do you hire students?
Absolutely. Several of our part-time staff are Sweet City University students. We're flexible with scheduling around exams and breaks, and our University District location is ideal for students who want a short commute. The 10% student discount extends to employee-students too (stacks with the 50% employee discount — yes, seriously).
What's the interview process?
Informal. We'll have a 20-30 minute chat at one of our locations, usually with a manager and/or Chef Maria. For baking roles, we'll ask you to come in for a paid 4-hour trial shift so you can see the environment and we can see you work. We aim to make offers within one week of meeting you.

Don't see your role?

We're always interested in hearing from talented people, even if we don't have a current opening that matches. Send us a note through the contact form and tell us what you'd bring to the team. We keep all inquiries on file.
